When it comes to buying a crib, some parents choose to buy one that can be converted into a bed, so that their children can use it year after year. But if this isn’t the case with your crib, this might be the article for you. Today, we’ll show you some of the different ways you can repurpose your old crib, and ensure you make the very most of it.

How to repurpose an old crib?

Before you know it, your little one is all grown up, and ready to sleep in a proper bed. But while this is a huge milestone in any child’s life, there is one thing you might be worried about – what to do with their old crib? Some parents choose to sell them, others give them away, while others lend them to family or friends. But if you’d rather keep your old crib and reuse it for something else, we recommend the following ideas:

1. Activity table

Super simple and easy to do, this is a really original way to repurpose your old crib. And the best thing is that this activity table can be turned back into a crib whenever you want.

So, how do you do it? Simply remove the mattress and one of the two long sides. The base can then be painted in chalkboard paint, while the rest of the sides can be used to hang objects or small chalkboards. You can then add some chairs (you should be able to fit in two no problem) so that your children can sit comfortably. This is the perfect place for them to do activities such as playing, painting or reading.

You can raise the height of the crib as your children get older, and turn their play table into a handy desk where they can do their homework.

2. Repurpose your old crib – create a handy storage rack

For this project, you need to be sure that you won’t want to use your crib again in the future, as you’ll need to dismantle it. Take the base or one of the sides, and paint it however you like. You can then lean it against the wall, and use it for hanging blankets, towels, sheets, or any other items.

If you happen to be a store owner, you could even use this to display your products, making it easier for you to sell and recommend different items to your customers.

3. Headboards

Repurposing an old crib doesn’t necessarily mean you have to use all the parts together. One great option is to remove the sides and use them as headboards. The smaller sides can be used for children’s beds, while the long sides can be used for double beds.

4. Repurpose your old crib – a comfy couch

Turning your crib into a comfy couch is a great way to repurpose it without having to dismantle it. This is ideal if you’re expecting another child, or you might want to sell your crib in the future. Simply remove one of the long sides and add a mattress and cushions.

This could be the perfect place to read your kids a bedtime story, or a comfortable spot for them to take an afternoon nap. Alternatively, you could even use it as a couch for your garden, balcony or terrace. If you do decide to keep it outside, we would recommend treating the wood with a waterproof sealant. It’ll look great out on your porch, or even in your entrance hall.

5. Chalkboards

In this case, you’ll need a crib that has at least one solid surface, rather than just bars. It’ll simply depend on which model you’ve bought. If you’ve got that, all you’ll need to do is paint it to create a chalkboard.

You can then hang it on the wall, or even use the head and footboards to make a double-sided chalkboard. In that case, you can simply attach the two together with string or metal chains, so that they hang in a triangle shape (like those you see outside of stores and restaurants).

6. Repurpose your old crib – children’s play area

Some figure

For this project, you hardly need to alter your crib at all, or at least not in any permanent way. It’s really very simple: remove one of the two longer sides and turn your crib upside-down, so that the base (where the mattress goes) becomes the top of your play area.

Next, place a blanket or mat on the floor. You’re then ready to fill your children’s play area with toys or any other objects you can think of: cushions, books, dolls, cars, etc. The idea is that your children can use the space underneath as a den, while the top can be used for storing toys, clothes or other belongings.

As you can see, there are more ways to repurpose your crib than you could ever imagine. It’s simply a question of getting creative and giving your furniture a new lease of life.
