Tips for Decorating in Gold
Last update: 10 March, 2019

Gold is a timeless color. While it’s true that gold has been popular over the years and in fashion trends, it has always been a color to keep in mind when decorating.

Gold is a color that speaks for itself; it’s the color of luxury and ostentation. When used in the right quantities and in the right places, gold can create a glamorous and elegant effect.

We love decorating in gold, as it can enhance your home. As you will read in the following post, gold is not synonymous with the Christmas season, despite what people think.

There’s no reason why your home can’t sparkle with this color all year round. In this post, we’ll provide some tips on how best to decorate using the color gold.

Where in your home can you decorate with gold?

Gold is generally used in living rooms. However, that doesn’t mean that elements of gold can’t be used in other rooms.

Gold decorations are suitable for every room in your home, including your bathrooms. The key is to include items that are in keeping and coordinated with the room – from a gold mirror in your bathroom or hallway to golden decorative accessories in your children’s bedrooms.

You could also use lamps, picture frames, wallpaper or cushions in gold.

As you can see, gold can be used in any room in your home. The key is to know how to use the color in the right amounts and on objects that coordinate with the rest of your room.

The golden key is in the details

While gold is a timeless color with a sophisticated touch and it does go well in any room, that doesn’t mean that you should fill your whole house with gold decorations.

The key is to know how to use this color in the right amounts. Otherwise, you’ll end up with an overpowering look that will, without doubt, make you feel overwhelmed whenever you enter the room.

Gold attracts a lot of attention and tends to take center stage in a room. That’s why it’s important to use only elements of gold that will give your room a touch of class.

If you want to display something that is entirely gold, it would be best for the other items in the room to be of a subtler color.

Some figure

Here’s an example. You want to decorate your hallway in gold. You’ve bought a mirror with a thick gold frame from an antique store and you hang it. You should make this mirror the centerpiece of your hallway and not allow any other decoration to overshadow your mirror.

You could incorporate other gold elements into the area, however, they can only be small details. This way, you’ll create a room in which gold is the main feature and, at the same time, the room is neither overloaded nor tacky.

Think about the look when decorating in gold

In any case, it’s important to consider the type of room that you would like to create and the effect you want it to have. If you want a luxurious and extravagant room, then you should incorporate items in gold.

Another option would be to use gold accessories but to opt for a more eye-catching or bright shade. The extent to which your gold items stand out in your room will also depend on your taste.

Some people like a simple decorative style, while others prefer busier rooms. Decorating in gold can work for both.

What colors go well with gold?

It’s often not clear with what colors can be combined with gold. Here we’ll provide a couple of tips on which colors go best with gold and those you should avoid.

So you can easily choose which colors will go well with your gold decoration.

Some figure
  • Gold and black: although these colors are very different, they can still be successfully combined together to create a luxurious and classy look. The only disadvantage is that decorating in these colors can make it feel like night or make your room feel dark. Depending on what look you would like to create, this is an important color pairing to bear in mind.
  • Gold and light pink: you can create a completely different look by combining gold with the lighter shades of pink. Gold will take center stage and bring a touch of glamor to your room, while the pink will create an atmosphere of calm at the same time. This type of decoration would be perfect for your children’s bedrooms.
  • Gold and fluorescent colors: gold is a very eye-catching color, as are fluorescent colors. We don’t recommend combining these two colors, as the effect would be explosive. Combined together, gold and fluorescents are enemies in the world of decoration.

So why not try decorating in gold?
