It’s important to teach children to do their bit around the house from a young age. Learning how to do basic maintenance, repair and decorating work are great life skills to have, and painting the house together can be a great activity for all the family.

Painting is something every member of the family can get involved in, and gives everyone the chance to paint their room exactly how they like. The idea is that each person can contribute in some small way – after all, decorating and maintaining the house is everyone’s responsibility.

Beautifully decorated walls are a basic element in any home. Colors help to define the atmosphere in each room and reflect the personality of the inhabitants. With this in mind, it’s important to remember that children’s rooms are not the same as a grown-ups’ room.

Make decorating a fun activity

Sometimes, it can feel like you can only have fun outside the house. But it all depends on your mindset. Any domestic chore can be fun if you go into it with the right attitude, and painting the house is no exception.

Believe it or not, painting is also a great way to stay fit and active. You and your family can get a mini work-out while having fun decorating your home together.

If you want to get your kids involved with painting the house, it’s important to present it in the right way. Lead by example, and show them just how much fun this activity can be. If every family member adopts this attitude, you can all pull together to get the job done.

It’s important for everyone to get involved in decorating the house.

Painting the house – dividing up the roles

When it comes to painting the house, you can’t just do it any old how. It’s important to take the time to think about the best way to go about it. Make sure to get your family involved in this process:

  • Go to the decorating store together so you can choose the color scheme. Give your kids the opportunity to choose the colors for their room, while guiding them toward tones that will work well with each other, and with the furniture.
  • While everyone needs to take responsibility for their own room, you’ll need to be on-hand to give your children plenty of help and guidance.
  • Ask your kids to place all their existing decorations in the center of the room, and cover them with a tarp to make sure they don’t get splashed with paint.
  • Do one last check to make sure you have everything you need. Now you can finally get down to business, and start painting your walls and ceiling.

Of course, there is an easier way to decorate your home – pay a company to do it for you. But why not do it as a family? You’ll save money, and it will bring you closer together!

  • With both parents and children working together, painting a room should take no time at all. But everyone needs to do their bit. If you can do that, painting your walls should be a quick and easy task.
  • Try not to let your kids get paint everywhere. Teach them to apply the paint straight to the walls, and not all over their clothes.
  • Contrast is a great way to really make your decor stand out. A room doesn’t need to be just one color. You could divide it in two, create a feature wall, or even add skirting boards.

Family activities can help you to get to know your children and your partner better.

Other ways to decorate your walls

If your children want to add some extra decorations to their bedroom walls, vinyl decals are a great option. You can find them in all different shapes, styles, and colors, so they can choose designs related to something that interests them, whether it be movies, animals, nature, etc.

Adults can also decorate their walls with additional elements, such as optical illusions. There are so many different types to choose from, and they’re great for giving your room that touch of originality. Needless to say, you can also find a range of vinyl decals and other patterns that are ideal for master bedrooms.

Your home can be a true work of art. As well as being beautifully painted themselves, the walls can also be used as the backdrop to a whole host of decorations. Give it a go, and you’ll soon discover that interior decor is an art in itself.
