The art of dressing your bed has a name. It’s called bed styling and it includes the best way to combine your comforter with your bedspread, cushions, and sheets. Follow our instructions to dress your bed. Create a cozy, warm and beautiful space similar to the cover of a magazine.

Moreover, we’ll give you the keys to success so that you can put bed styling into practice and feel comfortable. The fabrics you choose, the colors, and the arrangement of all the elements play an important role in this concept.

The perfect measurements for bedding

Put your bedroom in winter mode with these decorating tips

The first thing you need to do is to select your bedding. This includes thinking about the type of sheets you’ll use, what blankets you need, and if you prefer a bedspread or a comforter. One of the most important points to take into account are the measurements of each piece you choose.

In this sense and, although it seems obvious, when it comes to sheets you should choose ones that are the size of the bed. For example, if your bed measures 150 centimeters, your bedding should be the same size.

As for your pillows, the best option for a double bed is that each person has their own. For perfect styling, pillows should reach the ends of the bed and cover the entire space.

For example, if you have a 135-centimeter bed, you’ll need two 70-centimeter pillows. While a 150-centimeter bed means you can opt for two 75 or even 80-centimeter pillows. In this case, if your pillows exceed the size of your mattress, it won’t be noticeable because your comforter or bedspread will cover them.

The textile elements to dress your bed

Although this varies slightly depending on each element, there are some basics that you’ll need to have a perfect, comfortable and stylish bed. You must have a mattress protector, a bottom sheet, a bedspread, or a comforter and a plaid that can change depending on the time of year.

As for cushions, keep in mind that they’re the decorative elements and with them, you’ll be able to give your bed a personal touch. This is where you’ll discover the style of decor that you like.

Let’s talk about quilts and plaids

When it comes to bed styling, the plaid (the blanket covering the foot of the bed) is one of the elements that you’ll see the most. This should cover the width of the bed and hang between 20 and 30 centimeters on each side. Combine it with a couple of cushions to create harmony.

You can put several plaids on the foot of the bed and place them one on top of the other, stretched out or with measured accuracy. Try mixing textures and materials too.

As for your bedspread, it’s one of those necessary elements for beds that need covering completely and it must end where it begins. A trick for a beautiful bed is having the bedspread drop less on each side and longer at the foot.

You can also fold it or just use it as a bed cover. Don’t forget to also have a light quilt during the summer, as this is both practical and beautiful.

The cushions you’ll need to dress your bed

The number of cushions you use will depend on you and how you like to dress your bed. But for them to look as they should and to help you with styling your bed, there’s a minimum criterion to meet.

If you have a double bed, it’s recommendable to have between six and eight cushions. As for the size of these, the most attractive option is to display them from largest to smallest (50 x 75 centimeters, 60 x 60, 50 x 50, 40 x 40, and so on). This mix will give a richer visual effect to the space.

Finally, remember that it’s important to pay attention to the quality of the fabrics you use to achieve not only a beautiful bed but also a comfortable one. Keep in mind that even if you have to invest a little more money, 500 to 600 thread count cotton sheets are much more durable.

With these tips, you’ll be able to dress your bed like an expert. Add your own style through colors and patterns, and change them according to the season.
