Like every year, for the past twenty years, the Pantone Institute has announced the colors that’ll flood the trends. On this occasion, they’ve chosen two colors: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating.

In the words of the Executive Director for the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman:

“The union of Ultimate Gray with Illuminating Yellow expresses a message of positivity supported by strength.”

Thus, this combination generates hope, warmth, and, at the same time, resistance and practicality. It couldn’t be more perfect for 2021!

They chose these colors because they reinforce this year’s spirit and highlight the need to be seen and recognized. A combination of colors with links to ideas, innovation, and intuition, as well as respect for wisdom, experience, and intelligence. These tones, according to experts, project us towards new ways of thinking and conceptualizing.

Surely you really want to apply this binomial at home, right? To help you with the task, we’ll present some ideas. Remember, they’re designed to go hand in hand, not alone.

Ultimate Gray

This shade of gray is a timeless classic; neutral and perfect as the base of any decoration. It’s ideal for furniture, walls, and accessories. A very elegant color, it goes perfectly with any style, although it’s the favorite of Nordic and industrial spaces.

Illuminating

This, (and any other shade of yellow) is capable of illuminating whatever is put in front of it. It’s associated with the feeling of optimism and creativity, making it a highly recommendable color for active spaces such as offices, the kitchen, or a child’s playroom.

In excess it can be overwhelming, so add some neutral colors to the mix. This soothes it and gives it the necessary neutrality to shine in its proper measure.

Floors and walls

One of the ways to decorate your home with Pantone colors is through the walls. One of the trends that has been going strong for a long time is to paint your walls light gray–the perfect base for any space. If you add more intense color accents, such as Illuminating, you’ll have a winning combination.

Another of the proposals of many designers is to paint one wall in dark gray and the rest with Ultimate Gray. In this way, the color stands out much more and gives rise to very elegant and sober environments. To achieve balance and give it that modern touch, a yellow sofa would be great.

In addition, gray is so easy to combine that it’s also perfect for floors, giving prominence and helping to highlight any type of decoration.

Microcement, ceramic or marble floors are a very successful alternative and with some accessories in Illuminating or a large piece of furniture, you can create a very sophisticated and chic space.

Using gray and yellow in your decor: furniture

Both Ultimate Gray and Illuminating are very complementary tones for decorating your home. All accessories and furniture get along very well with them.

If you choose to leave your walls and floors gray, (as mentioned), with yellow walls you’ll achieve a little more light and depth in your spaces.

If you want a more classic atmosphere, gray furniture will definitely be your best option. Add some decorative detail in yellow–cushions or a rug that combines both tones.

Using gray and yellow in your decor is always a good option. They’re in fashion this year so take advantage of this colorful couple to give your home that optimistic touch you need.

If you’re more daring, why not have your largest items of furniture in yellow and leave the rest in gray and white? Can you imagine how good that resplendent sofa would look in your living room?
