Ivy is the perfect plant. That’s because it has qualities that improve the atmosphere of any space, and will give it the touch of green you’re looking for.

What is ivy?

Also known as Hedera helix, ivy belongs to the Araliaceae family and is originally from Europe. There a different species of it and it has a very interesting characteristic: it’s evergreen and can climb.

Ivy is a liana plant with very resistant leaves. It can latch on to logs, walls or any surface that’s close to where it’s growing.

It’s found both outdoors (in parks, gardens or out in the woods) and indoors because it easily adapts to different environments and climates.

Its leaves are dark green with triangular, oval or elliptical shapes. Also, the stems can reach up to 15 meters tall.

No matter where your house is, you can decorate it with ivy. Regardless of the location, it can grow perfectly and have a long, prosperous life.

It will go great in your home and it will grow into a fruitful plant whose interesting shape will please anyone that sees it.

The connection between man and nature is found in his physical and spiritual health.

Aesthetic possibilities

Ivy can invade any space that it occupies. So, if you have it inside, you’ll have to be sure to control it and to cut it when necessary. If not, it will grow past the walls and areas that you want it.

You can cut the branches according to how much of the space you want it to take up. Keep in mind that it’s best to put the ivy in higher areas, that way it won’t get in the way of your furniture.

It’s also possible to use this plant with other decorative elements. Decorating with ivy won’t cause any tension and you’ll be able to keep the harmony you want inside your home.

What sensations do ivy and its leafy green color transmit?

  • Health and vitality
  • Naturalness
  • Aesthetic sensitivity
  • Freshness
  • Tranquility

If you choose to use it outside your home, like in the garden or on the terrace, you can let the plant grow more and show its wild side.

Plants are the lungs of our home.

Where is it best to have ivy?

It’s very important that you understand the characteristics of this plant so that it’ll survive inside. So, keep the following things in mind:

  • It has to be placed in the light. It doesn’t require direct sunlight, indirect light will work.
  • Don’t put ivy in dark rooms. Like any living being, it needs light.
  • Don’t put it in dry climates or environments because it needs some humidity.
  • It can be put in hanging pots to showcase its hanging character.

We recommend that you put the plant in a corner where it will be able to climb the walls. This is the best way to decorate the space.

Care and maintenance: decorate your house with ivy

Like we said before, ivy needs humidity. You shouldn’t put it in a very dry environment because it needs a humid atmosphere.

You don’t have to continuously water it. You’ll only have to water it a few times a month. If the ivy is really dry, you’ll notice that it will lose some of its color.

Pruning is very helpful. So, how do you do it and what does it do?

  • Gives greater density
  • Improves the plant’s overall health
  • Promotes growth control: this will slow and tame its wild character

You should prune the plant twice a year.

To check the health of the plant, monitor the woodiness of its branches. If its stems are in good health, then you’ll know you’re taking care of it correctly.

Conclusion

Ivy is an original, dynamic and feasible plant for our homes. It does require maintenance, but it doesn’t have to be continuous.

So, if you really want to decorate your home, but you don’t have time to water a plant every day, ivy is a great choice for you.
