The Latest Interior Decorating Trends for 2019
2018 is over, so let’s kick off the new year with some truly fabulous interior decorating ideas. Some old trends are back with a bang, sharing the limelight with new and exciting trends. But if there’s one thing that will define the interior decorating trends of 2019, it’s sophistication.
Old styles return while new colors and materials emerge, but it is their sophistication that will unite this year’s decorating trends.
Colors will become more intense, while still maintaining the natural and blush tones we saw last year. You’ll also see decorated ceilings and natural fibers everywhere you look. Materials such as velvet, cork, esparto grass and terrazzo are back. We’ll tell you all about them in this article.
Colors
We’re already seeing some stand-out colors for 2019. Pantone has named them the ‘Cravings’. They are in fierce competition with colors such as ultraviolet, which was undoubtedly the star color of 2018. The color pallet offered by Pantone is a real feast for the senses.
The ‘Cravings‘ color pallet goes from bright reds and soft flamingo pink to intense purples. Filled with emotion, this pallet is a real explosion of color that awakens the senses.
2019’s neutral colors give a nod to our favorite foods – you’ll find colors such as ‘Cappuccino’ and ‘Butterum’. We’re also seeing colors such as grass green, and classics such as intense green-blues and flannel gray.
All these colors are combined with swan white, dark red, caviar black and a rich, gold-and-apricot brandy tone. These are the colors you have to play with this year. “Cravings” and classics combined. A color pallet which is at once clashing and complementary. You’ll see them used on walls, textiles, and all kinds of decorative elements.
Textiles
The decorating trends of 2019 have seen the triumphant return of velvet. And this is no passing trend; there’s no doubting that it’s here to stay. There’s no better way to create a feeling of sophistication than with this wonderful material.
We’re seeing really innovative designs, more daring and contemporary than any we have seen up until now. When it comes to textiles, another important change is the patterns. This year, we’ll be seeing lots of floral designs, which are even being used for floors and even ceilings.
From fabrics to wallpaper, everything will be covered with flowers. The best thing is that, this year, you can use both classic floral patterns and the more modern and abstract designs. However, squares also have their part to play.
We’re seeing them everywhere, from upholstery and decorations, to curtains and wall hangings. This trend is starting small this season, but we’re sure to see it grow in strength over the next few months.
Interior decorating trends for 2019: materials
There are also plenty of changes when it comes to other materials. We’re seeing lots of gold-plated metal – in frames, mirrors, decorations, faucets, and door handles.
In fact, almost any element can be decorated with gold-plated metal. Natural fibers will also play an important role in our interiors this year, being used for anything from furniture to wall hangings.
Ceramic is also back in a big way, along with esparto grass and cork. But the most significant trend is the return of terrazzo. This time, it won’t just be used for floors – instead, it will be used for walls.
Walls lined with terrazzo will be one of the hottest decorating trends of the new year, going hand in hand with white or rose marble, which will be used to make elegant coffee tables and other decorative elements.
Two styles: a blast from the past
Wabi-Sabi and Japandi. These styles continue to go from strength to strength and show no signs of slowing down anytime soon. They see beauty in imperfections and love all things vintage. The combination of Nordic and Japanese-style decor will be the stars of living room decor in 2019.
We’d also like to welcome back a long-awaited ghost from the past: the Art Deco style. And it is back in a big way. Over the last few years, we’ve seen its influence in small details and Art Deco-inspired designs. But this season, it’s back in full force, working hand-in-hand with the 2019 color pallet. It’s sure to have stunning results.
Unrecognizable kitchens
Another important change we’ll see in 2019’s interior decorating trends is in kitchens. Gone are the partition walls: we’ll be seeing a lot more open plan kitchens.
Open plan kitchens are well-established in the world of interior decorating. Kitchen colors will also undergo a radical transformation. This year, we’ll be seeing a lot more black and gold in our kitchens, along with white, gray and earth tones such as henna. Use any of these, and your kitchen decor is sure to be a success.
