Decorate Pots with Stones
If you have a lot of plants at home, whether they’re indoors or outdoors, you can personalize them in many ways. Decorating your pots with stones or other natural objects could be a great way to give them unique detail. In our post today, we’ll show you some fun ideas for decorating pots this way.
Decorating your pots is a way to embellish your plant containers. If you’re a crafts fan, this is a great idea for you.
Create fun, original designs with stones of different sizes, varied colors, and textures. Another advantage is that you can find them easily. All you need to do is take a short walk around your home and pick up the ones that you like.
1. Pick out your favorites
Stones come in an infinite amount of varieties. Big ones, medium-sized ones and tiny ones. There are smooth textures, rough ones, or some with sharp edges. Then there are gray ones, black ones, and colorful ones.
First, you have to choose the pot. If you want to decorate several pots, you’ll need to gather a considerable amount. After you’ve picked up your favorites, decide if you want to use them as they are or color them.
1. Paint the stones
Gray or white colored stones are perfect for painting. You’ll need some acrylic paints or permanent, fine-tip markers if you want to draw on them. You can paint them completely in different colors or design them with lines, dots, and geometric shapes. Paint or draw on them and leave them to dry.
2. Lay them stones on the soil to decorate the inside of your pots
The easiest decor option is laying them on top of the soil in your pots. If you have a cactus plant or a plant without leaves, this is a great opportunity to try out some original decor. Lay them out in descending order to create a natural pattern.
Try placing the medium-sized stones next to another around the inside of the pot. Then, do the same thing with the smaller ones. Completely or partially cover the soil. Your pots will look simply beautiful with your design.
2. Glue stones onto your pots
Let’s move onto our next idea. You’ll need super glue and small or medium-sized stones for this craft.
Apply a thin layer of glue to each stone and stick them onto the pot. Put some strong pressure on them for a few seconds. Create fun designs, covering your pot’s entire surface. You can also try making a more spontaneous design by mixing stones of different sizes and colors. Or, you can organize them into lines of the same color.
3. Applying stones with gesso
You’ll need the following materials:
- Pot
- Gesso
- Plastic netting
- Small stones
To use these materials to decorate your pot, start by applying a thick layer of gesso to your pot, covering its entire surface. Then, stick on the plastic netting. Try using plastic netting of a light and neutral color, like white.
Continue pasting on the small stones onto the plastic netting. Lastly, use a sponge or thick rag to lightly press the stones and to remove any excess gesso. You can find these materials in any home goods store or plant nursery.
This is a beautiful option for decorating your pots and embellishing your plants.
With a little imagination, you can dress up your pots and give your home a little personality. Stones are natural, elegant features that’ll work perfectly with your indoor or outdoor plants.
