Minimalist Beds - How to Get the Look
Minimalism is a decorative style that can be used for any room, and of course, for any piece of furniture in our homes. As the name suggests, minimalist beds have a light, compact style, so they are perfect for anyone who loves this contemporary look. We’ll tell you all about them in the following article.
Minimalist beds: elegant and decorative
When we think about minimalist bedrooms, we imagine very little furniture (all straight lines) and light, neutral colors. We also expect them to have good lighting – preferably natural. There should be nothing too ostentatious or ornate, and everything should have a specific function in the room.
Minimalist beds are the best option if you want a clean, ordered bedroom, with nothing left lying around. Plus, they can actually help you get a better night’s sleep – one of the reasons why you might not be able to fall asleep or sleep well at night is because there is too much stuff in your room!
Before you choose your minimalist bed, you should consider the following:
1. Design matters
In minimalist decoration, less is always more. So, the beds that work best with this style are those that aren’t too over the top. But what does that mean exactly? It means that they shouldn’t have ornate headboards or elaborately decorated frames, for example.
Minimalist beds are similar to those seen in oriental countries, in that they are very simple and basic. Their design should be in harmony with the style of the rest of the room.
2. Place your bed against the wall
The shape of minimalist beds is the same as any other type of bed, i.e. rectangular. We recommend that you place your bed against the wall. That way, it won’t take up too much space in the center of the room.
Furthermore, it also helps to create an effect that is more than simply original or interesting; it can actually appear as if your bed is flying, suspended in mid-air. This is because their designs mean that the legs are placed towards the center of the bed, and so they are usually out of sight.
3. Make your bed from wooden pallets
If you want a minimalist bedroom and you love DIY, an excellent way to get the look is to actually make your own bed from wooden pallets. It’s really easy to do, and if you don’t mind sleeping near the ground, you’ll love the result.
Basically, all you need to do is take 4 full-size wooden pallets. Then, sand and paint them your favorite color (or at least give them a coating of varnish to give them a nice finish, and to help the wood last longer). Once it’s dry, all you need to do is place your mattress on the pallets, and you’re done!
Some people like to decorate the underside of their pallets with fairy lights to light up their room at night; others make a headboard, cutting a pallet down the middle. You could also make nightstands by splitting a pallet in two and placing one half either side of the bed. Let your imagination run wild, and get the bed of your dreams.
4. Say goodbye to your cushions
As you probably already know, the minimalist style doesn’t use any unnecessary distractions and obstructions. Some of the most “distracting” objects in our bedrooms are decorative cushions.
You should only have the pillow you sleep with or, if you use more than one when you’re reading or watching TV, you should keep it in your wardrobe or in a drawer under the bed.
5. Choosing the color
When it comes to painting minimalist bedrooms, white is a popular choice. However, you can also use other colors (though we recommend that you use no more than three in any one room). Having brown or black detailing, a touch of green or gray, or even simply painting one wall in a dark tone will be enough to create the desired effect.
Minimalist beds look great and will give your bedroom a modern and tranquil feeling. And you don’t need to spend much money, as you can do a lot of the work yourself. However, if you really want to pull off the minimalist look, you’ll have to decorate the rest of the room to match.
