Erik Jorgensen Sofa Designs
Sofas are an important resource when creating a style for a room. The fascination with this piece of furniture has given rise to a whole variety of shapes and styles. Within the interior design world, some collections are known by name. This is the case of Erik Jorgensen’s sofa designs.
This interior designer is well known in Nordic countries, such as Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Some of his creations have transcended all traditional styles and fashions. They have become classics of modern designs.
Jorgensen has designed various popular works, such as the Delphi Sofa, the Ox Chair, and the Corona Chair. Interior design lovers around the world instantly recognize these unique designs.
The beginning of Danish design
The history of Erik Jorgensen’s company is woven into the history of modern Danish design from the mid-20th century. He founded his company in 1954. This artist began by designing chairs. However, he soon leaped furniture upholstery.
During his time as an upholsterer, he became familiar with numerous designers who displayed his creations. At this stage, he began to collaborate with titans of Danish design, such as Hans Wegner or Volther. However, it wasn’t until 1970 when Jorgensen launched his creations with the revolutionary EJ 220 sofa.
From this moment on, Jorgensen’s company didn’t stop growing until it became a huge design brand that people know today.
His designs pursue the concepts of modernity, functionality, and fashion.
Erik Jorgensen sofa designs – the EJ 220 sofa
Since its launch in the early 1970s, the EJ 220 has been a cornerstone of the Erik Jorgensen brand. This sofa has become synonymous with Danish classic design. It offers a high level of comfort and aims to help eliminate environmental stress.
This piece is characterized by its square shape and low frame. It also features narrow armrests. This gives the sofa an informal, yet elegant appearance.
The idea was to create a sofa that offered comfort and simple, aesthetic appeal. In 2012, the designer updated the piece by adding large buttons of the back cushions. This creates a less severe look.
Frame Erik Jorgensen sofa
The Frame Sofa is perhaps the piece that best represents the Jorgensen company. The Danish-Icelandic design duo Hee Welling and Gudmundur Ludvik designed this piece of furniture. The duo created a design that highlights materials and construction, as well as comfort. They ultimately created a product that represents a very specific aesthetic.
This sofa has a contemporary and simple image. It also stands out thanks to the exposed, matte-steel frame. The minimalist outer frame is juxtaposed with the soft and cozy couch cushions. The Frame Sofa works both indoors and outdoors. There is also a special version designed to be placed outside.

The Delphi Sofa
As you can see, Erik Jorgensen’s sofa designs are classic and timeless. However, if we had to choose just one, we would have to go for the iconic Delphi Sofa.
- This expansive piece of furniture has an interesting aesthetic and stands out for its sophisticated details.
- The sofa is especially attractive due to the alternating heights of the seat. The asymmetry and irregularity are repeated in the armrests and backrest. The feigned movement makes the sofa very comfortable, and of course, an eye-catching piece.
- Also, this sofa has various accessories. For example, it has a tray that fits the armrests, a blanket, footrests of different sizes, and a place for a pet.
Wave Organic sofa – inclination and comfort
If you’re looking for an artistic sofa design that is both beautiful and practical, the Wave Organic sofa might be perfect for you! Designers Anne-Mette Jensen and Morten Ernst designed this sofa. It creates the image of a sculptural wave that imitates nature.
Thanks to this sofa’s original design, it won the first Erik Jorgensen Mobel-fabrik design competition in 1994. It’s still a very attractive design for a modern space.
The simple, elegant, and organic appearance is the result of two pairs of curves. It consists of two separate parts. There are leather seats that wrap around a molded fiberglass base. Then, the corrugated bench features a black fiberglass base with an ultra-modern upholstered seat.
