Let’s clean your kitchen in just one hour!
The first thing you have to do before you begin is to gather the cleaning products you’ll need. These should be the ones that you’re familiar with, that you’ve always used and that you trust to do a good job.
Once you have everything ready, follow our steps, read our tips and consider the time it’ll take you to execute each task.
Your oven and extractor hood
Give yourself just ten minutes to clean your oven and extractor fan and set an alarm to make the challenge more fun and ensure you meet your goal. These two appliances have something in common and that is that they accumulate a lot of grease. As such, your first step will be to apply a degreaser and let it act between three and four minutes.
While it acts, mix warm water and lemon juice in a bowl. Then, put it in your microwave for three minutes to soften any food debris. Next, clean the inside of your microwave with a damp cloth and if necessary, remove the glass plate and components. Wash them separately in warm soapy water to remove any grease.
Finally, dry your microwave and rinse the degreaser from your oven and extractor before continuing with the next step.
Clean your kitchen cabinets and wall tiles
Cleaning the outer doors of your kitchen cabinets and your wall tiles will take only 15 minutes. Everything should be cleaned in the direction of top to bottom, thus avoiding having to clean it twice. Simply pass a damp cloth with a little ammonia over each surface, then, buff with a dry cloth to avoid leaving water marks.
Glass is easier to clean. Just pass a damp cloth over the surface with a few drops of alcohol or vinegar for a sparkling result. These products are simple and inexpensive.
Hob and countertop
You’ll need to allow ten minutes to clean your ceramic hob and countertop. Start by applying your usual cleaning product to your hob and let it act. Meanwhile, clean the countertop with a damp cloth that’s impregnated with a neutral detergent.
Next, pass a damp cloth over the hob to remove the cleaning product that you previously applied. If necessary, use a sponge to remove any grease, but be careful not to scratch the ceramic. Finish this section by thoroughly drying all surfaces. Did you manage to beat the time on the clock?
Lower area and trash can
You’ll need about ten minutes to clean the lower area of your kitchen, as well as the garbage can. Yes, the latter really does need cleaning!
Fill the garbage can with water and bleach to disinfect it. While you let the mixture take effect, pass a damp cloth with a few drops of ammonia on it, over the baseboards and the refrigerator. Later, wash the garbage can with clean water and let it dry before using it again.
Sink and floor
We’ll dedicate the last 15 minutes to cleaning the sink and the floor. Use a non-abrasive sponge to clean your sink and faucet to avoid scratching the surfaces. Sweep the floor and vacuum. Finally, scrub the floor with water and two caps of ammonia. You can now relax!
Useful daily recommendations to clean your kitchen
Follow these tips each day to make cleaning your kitchen easier and maintain your efforts.
- Clean your extractor hood each time you cook. Use a cloth and a few drops of ammonia, so less grease will accumulate and the task will be easier.
- Always have several cleaning cloths, ammonia, and two bottles of water to hand.
- Wash each cloth after every use.
- Use a splashback to protect your kitchen tiles from grease.
Avoid these mistakes:
- Don’t leave the cleaning product in contact with the surface for longer than the manufacturer recommends. Otherwise, you risk stains and surface deterioration.
- Don’t apply cleaning products in excess: this won’t guarantee improved cleaning. In fact, it’ll generate more foam and will only delay your work.
