Allergies often spoil the most beautiful seasons of the year. As such, it’s important to fight back by maintaining a strict cleaning routine at home.

Although there are other factors outside of your control that affect allergies, by having an allergen-free home you can reduce annoying symptoms. These symptoms can be anything from red and swollen eyes, a blocked or runny nose, itchy skin, and sneezing.

What are allergies?

People can be allergic to all types of things, including food, pets, pollen, and dust. Symptoms can be anything from mild sneezing, and itchy eyes to severe breathing difficulties and even death. Seasonal allergies are also quite common where people report different symptoms during spring, summer, fall, or winter.

If symptoms appear from the beginning of spring up until summer, tree and grass pollen is likely to be the number one culprit.

Mold is another allergen that can cause discomfort and it can come from humidity in the home. It can also come from grass, compost, or plants that are decomposing.

This is how you should clean your home to avoid common allergies

As you may have already guessed, common allergens can be found all around the home. This is why it’s important to clean your home with care in order to eliminate the current risk and avoid creating more dust, pollen, and mold.

Take notes, because we’re about to explain how you can best clean your home.

Avoid dust so as not to aggravate your allergies.

Don’t use feather dusters

Dust, pollen, mold, and other allergens settle on all surfaces in your home. For this reason, it’s best to clean with a robot vacuum cleaner or with a damp cloth. If you use a duster you’ll send particles flying throughout your home, aggravating your situation.

Keep in mind not to moisten the cloth with chemical products because their odors can also make you sneeze. Choose natural ones such as vinegar, lemon juice, or water, nothing else.

Avoid opening your windows in the morning and evening

During spring and summer, the highest concentration of pollen occurs in the early hours of the day and in the afternoon. Ventilate your home at noon, but keep your windows closed during the times we’ve mentioned. This will prevent pollen from entering your home. To clean the air in your home use a humidifier.

Additionally, avoid drying your clothes outside because pollen sticks to clothes and you’ll bring it inside your home without realizing it.

Remove unnecessary objects

Dust, mold, and pollen can cling to all sorts of objects in your home, so it’s best to remove anything that you don’t need. The minimalist style will be your best ally.

Remove collectible figurines and choose furniture that doesn’t have textures or nooks where allergens can lodge. This same advice applies to textiles. Avoid accumulating cushions, blankets, and rugs. Now, if it’s essential for you to have rugs, those made of jute, coconut, or bamboo are ideal.

Regularly disinfect your kitchen

Disinfect your kitchen thoroughly.

It’s essential to disinfect your kitchen on a daily basis because it’s a place where you likely spend a lot of time. The countertop should be cleaned with a little bicarbonate of soda dissolved in water.

Your refrigerator must also be cleaned to prevent stagnant water from collecting in the compartments and creating fungi. Clean it with a little white vinegar and warm water. Be sure to wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.

Take care of your bedroom

Cleaning should extend to your bedroom. Clean your mattress frequently or hire a specialized service. Keep in mind that some mattresses are made of latex and viscoelastic, which are designed to avoid allergies.

Additionally, change your bedding frequently to eliminate the microorganisms that live there. Carpets also need careful consideration, it’s better to avoid them or have them in natural materials.

Say goodbye to allergies

As you’ve seen, cleaning is essential to avoid and prevent allergies. If you take good care of yourself too, shower regularly, and change your clothes, you can also reduce the risk of allergies and their annoying symptoms.

If you have to regularly leave your home, to go to work, for example, replicate these tips in your office or in your car. These places are also likely to harbor the allergens that affect you.
