In this article on how to decorate your window space, you’ll soon see that there are many different ways to personalize your windows so that they match the decorative style of your room.

To do this, you’ll need to think about the material they’re made from. This will have a huge impact on the overall look and influence of which decorative style they work best with. Plus, you can find curtains of all different shapes and sizes, from small windows to large bay windows or French windows which give you lots more space to work with.

You also need to think about whether you want to decorate the inside or the outside of your windows. This decision will dictate what type of materials you need to use, e.g. whether they need to be weather resistant.

Next, we’ll give you a few ideas on how to decorate your windows. You can combine 2 or more of these ideas if you wish. However, don’t overdecorate your window, as it will decrease the amount of natural light in your room, and make cleaning and maintenance more difficult.

1. Curtains, blinds, and shutters

You can combine two different types of curtain to decorate the same window.

This is undoubtedly one of the most common ways to decorate windows in our homes. Plus, it’s often possible to combine more than one type of curtain.  You can mix curtains and Venetian blinds, blinds and shutters… These will help to improve your home environment – they keep out the cold and help to filter the natural light coming into your room.

Blinds and curtains are really great decorative elements. If you’re decorating a children’s bedroom, for example, there is a whole range of designs available. On the other hand, if you’re a fan of DIY, you could even reuse old materials and make your own curtains.

If your bedroom doesn’t get much natural light, we recommend that you choose blinds and curtains made of very fine, light materials. This is so they won’t reduce the amount of natural light further and will help you to make the most of it.

So, although curtains and blinds are essentially practical and functional items, you can also use them to decorate your windows. Wood, macramé, fabric, natural fibers… There’s a whole variety of materials and styles to choose from, so you can pick the ones you like best.

2. Decorating a window – plants

Plants like cacti are a great way to decorate a window.

Inside or outside, and no matter what type of window you have, plants are a great option. However, if they’re going to be outside, you need to choose plants or flowers that are suitable for the climate.

If you’re going to use them to decorate the inside of your window, you’ll probably want to keep them on the windowsill. The type of flower pot and the material you choose will depend on the decorative style in your home.

For example, if you have industrial style decor, copper plant pots are a great choice. If you have ethnic style decor, you could decide to go for plant pots with geometric patterns…

Another possibility is to have hanging plants, either by hanging them from the curtain rail or by installing a couple of horizontal bars to make a vertical garden.

3. Decorations and containers

You can get really creative with these, as there are thousands of different options to choose, from putting up garlands, to hanging pompoms from your curtain rail.

You could also buy a low seat to decorate you window area.

You could also hang up strings of glass beads, stars, or hearts to add a touch of color. If you have small children, they could even help you make them. They’re sure to love it!

Another option is to put up decorative vinyls or stickers. There is so much variety out there. Some of the most popular images are birds sitting on branches. They are usually placed at various different heights up and down the window, leaving a gap in the middle.

Other popular designs are flowers, falling leaves, raindrops, silhouettes of famous skylines, or animals, especially in households with young children. Plus, there are lots of different styles, so it won’t be difficult to find one to decorate your windows.

Finally, you could also place a low seat underneath the window, which you can then decorate with cushions, decorative vases or flower pots. If you’re short on storage space, it can easily double as an additional shelf.

As you can see, these are just some of the many ways to decorate your windows. With a little imagination and creativity, you can give your windows a complete makeover.
