Closets: How to Choose the Right One
With our five top tips, finding the perfect closet will be easy.
Closets make up part of the furniture and decor in every house. They are an essential item. Firstly, because we need them to keep our clothes in, and also, as there are so many different styles, they are also a decorative element.
Choosing the right one isn’t always easy. Because of the huge range of styles, sizes, types and materials available, it’s easy to choose the wrong closet.
Keep in mind that a good closet is a great investment, and a purchase which will last a lifetime. That’s why it’s so important to choose the right one.
In this article, we’ll give you some top tips so that you can select the perfect closet.
Tip #1: types of closets
Firstly, it’s essential to know what type of closet you need.
If you have a good amount of space, the best thing to do is choose a closet with extra features and extensions. Extra features are great, because you can add as many as you want and need, and alter the size of your closet.
If, however, you don’t have much room, we would recommend a built-in closet.
Tip #2: where to put your closet
The second thing you need to ask yourself is where you’re going to put your closet. There are so many different styles. Children’s closets are not the same as closets for guest bedrooms, or double bedrooms, or walk-in closets.
You’ll also need to decide if you want a closet that will match the decoration in your room, if you want it to stand out, or if you want it to go unnoticed.
Tip # 3: who will be using it
This is also important, as your answer will dictate the size of the closet you choose.
For example, if you live alone, obviously you’ll be the only one using the closet, so it can be whatever size you want.
However, if you have two children who share a room, for example, you’ll need to think about whether you want two smaller, individual closets or one large one both children can share.
The same goes for a double bedroom. If you’re going to share a wardrobe, you’ll need to think about what’s best for both of you.
If you want to share a closet without it causing arguments, it’s best to buy extra features which will help you to organize it better.
Tip #4: closet doors
There are lots of different types of closet doors.
Firstly, there is the hinged closet door. These traditional doors are pretty much the same as they’ve always been.
If you decide you want this type of door, you should know that you’ll need a minimum of approximately 18 inches of space if you want to open them without them hitting anything.
Finally, there are folding doors. These are the least common, but they are still an option.
Your choice of door will depend on the amount of space you have available, and how deep this space is.
For example, if you have a fairly shallow closet, it’s best to have hinged doors.
However, this will all depend on where you place your closet. Hinged and folding doors can get in the way of other pieces of furniture.
Tip #5: the interior
The interior of your closet is an important aspect, so it’s worth giving it some thought before you buy.
To choose the right one, you’ll need to think about who’ll be using it, and where you’re going to put it.
Generally, the minimum a small or medium-sized closet should have is a rail where you can hang clothes, a space where you can keep folded clothes, and at least one drawer. After that, it will simply depend on your own personal needs.
Nowadays, there are a lot of closets to which you can add extra features to increase the amount of space, and help you to organize your clothes.
Sometimes you can actually customize your whole closet, adding all the accessories you need.
Choosing the ideal closet doesn’t have to be complicated. Remember our five top tips, and it can actually be super easy.
However, it’s best to measure twice and buy once. So, make sure that your measurements are right before you bring your closet home.
Finally, we’d also recommend that you take the time to have a look round a few different stores. That way, you can explore all the different options on the market.
