Have you got a few old bikes around the home? Maybe from when you or your kids were younger, and they’re now just floating around the junk room or the shed taking up space. Reusing old bicycles in your home decor is a great way to give them a second life.

Did you know that there are quite a few ways you could jazz up your decor with old bicycles? This idea for home decor may seem a little unusual. However, the result can be very original and innovative.

So, you don’t have to get rid of those old bicycles after all. They can be useful as decor items and can contribute to the aesthetic feel of your home. If you look at it objectively, really all of those old contraptions you don’t use anymore can have value and a certain charm as vintage decor items.

Making a bicycle into a table

How can you turn a bicycle into a table? Simply take out the seat (and handlebars if necessary) and put a thick board onto the bike frame. Just make sure that the bicycle will be stable and won’t wobble about since you’re changing its function.

Generally, bike tables like this can be anchored to the wall for greater stability. However, if you want your unique bike table to be in the middle of the living room, for instance, you’ll need to add a couple of lateral supports so it will stay upright.

On the other hand, you’ve also got the option of pulling apart the bicycle and dividing it into various parts. You could then turn several of these parts into unique pieces of furniture.

For example, why not create an original coffee table using one of the wheels on a stand, with a circular piece of glass on top? This table would be ideal for a bedside table, a small table for the patio outside or to put beside the sofa.

With a little imagination you can transform the look and use of a bicycle.

Bicycles are functional items that are generally used outside. However, it’s also possible to use them in your decor, for instance in the living room, basically just to decorate. But how can you create a decor using old bicycles? Let’s see 3 interesting ways:

  1. On the one hand, you have the possibility of decorating the living room simply by hanging an old bike on the wall. It’s one way you can show your affection for your old bike, and give a relaxed, enjoyable touch to the room. You’ll be breaking with the traditional decor here.
  2. As we mentioned above briefly, you could divide up the bike into various pieces and use some of them to make other types of furniture or decor items. For example, a wheel could become an inventive clock for your living room wall. Without a doubt, it would be an attractive and original decor piece.
  3. You could also make a cool light fitting using one of the wheels. Hang several light bulbs around the wheel. Of course, you’ll also have to hook each one up to a cable. Finally, hang your light fitting from the ceiling.

Using old bicycles in the garden

Using old bicycles in the garden is a great decor addition

Do you want to keep the bike whole? You could put an old bicycle in the garden as a unique feature. Put it on a stand to show it off.

Of course, the most common way to use old bicycles in garden decor is by making them into pot plant holders. This procedure is very simple and will give your garden an elegant, vintage touch.

Firstly, if the handlebars have a basket, start there. Put a container there that will serve to hold the soil for your plants. If not you could just tie the container to the handlebars in place of the basket. Make sure you fix the bike to the ground so it won’t fall over. You could paint the bike in a suitable color or modify it however you like to suit your new design.

The garden can become a more original place if you use decorative resources such as this.
