Do you love hydraulic tiles but don’t know where you can put them? In this article, we’ll show you how to decorate a table with them.

Decorating a table with hydraulic tiles is not as crazy as it seems. In today’s world, we find alternative uses for all types of materials. Normally, hydraulic tiles are used for floors and walls. However, a new trend has surfaced where they are used to decorate surfaces of many different things, in particular, tables.

Hydraulic tiles have become fashionable again in the last 5 years or so. This is because vintage style decor is a popular trend now. In recent years, a love for vintage things has surfaced not only in fashion but in decor. This is why these tiles that were popular in the 70s have come back.

In this article, we will tell you how you can decorate a table with hydraulic tiles.

What are hydraulic tiles?

Obviously, before telling you how to decorate a table with these tiles, you have to know what they are. These tiles were originally made of colored cement. They are also known as mosaic tiles.

This type of tile is strong, which is why it can be used indoors or outdoors.

You must keep in mind though that they are porous because of their material. Therefore, you must be careful with any liquids that come into contact with these tiles.

Hydraulic tiles came about in France in the mid-nineteenth century. However, in Spain, they were used by the famous architect, Antonio Gaudi.

They were very fashionable in the 70s and are now popular again. This type of tile has a distinctive design, usually floral or geometric mosaics.

It should be noted that nowadays hydraulic tiles are made out of new materials. These materials are:

  • Vinyl
  • Ceramic

How do you decorate a table with hydraulic tiles?

For this project, you first need to choose the table you want to decorateYou should do this before you buy the tiles because you have to measure the surface of the table to get the appropriate amount of tiles.

Then, you need to decide what type of tiles you want. As we stated earlier, there are three options:

  • Original
  • Ceramic
  • Vinyl

It all depends on your budget.

Then, decide what colors you want your tiles to be. Think about where you want to place the table and the decoration of the area. That way, the table will be a unique piece but will blend with everything else.

Finally, before starting the project, you need to decide how you will arrange the tiles. You can cover the entire surface or you can leave the edges of the table without tiles to serve as a frame.

Decorating a table with hydraulic tiles is very easy.

Materials

The materials that you will need are:

  • A sander
  • Extra strong glue from a glue gun
  • Tiles
  • Paint (optional)

The process

First, you should sand the entire surface of the table. Then, you need to decide where you will stick the tiles if you are going to make a “frame”.  If not, simply glue the tiles to the entire surface.

You must glue each tile to the table, one by one.

For vinyl tiles, you will probably not need glue since they usually have an adhesive underside.

To give the table a more vintage look, you can sand other parts if it to make it look worn.
