Decorating Home Furniture
Decorating your home furniture is an economic and easy project to tackle. It’s the perfect solution for those furniture pieces that we love but have gone a little out of style. Or those that are just old and show it. You’ve probably just thought about giving them a fresh coat of paint but today, we have some other ideas for you to try.
These days, there are plenty of wonderful and creative ideas to make your furniture look like new. But instead of just looking new, they’re also one-of-a-kind because making it your own project means that it will be unique. In today’s post, we’ll like to give you 4 ideas for decorating your home.
Paint your furniture
Painting your furniture at home is becoming a norm. It’s one of the easiest, cheapest and common ways to liven up furniture without having to buy new.
Before you paint it though, remember to clean it well. We’re not just talking about stains or dust, but make sure to bleach it to remove the original paint.
Once you’ve finished bleaching your furniture, you can begin painting. Choose a color that goes well with the room and falls into balance with the rest of the decor. Colorful furniture is very trendy these days, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for a bolder project.
On a different note, the kind of paint that you use matters. There are all kinds of types out there. Depending on what kind of finish you want, and if the furniture will be indoors or outdoors, you’ll have to consider your options carefully.
Go to a home improvement store and find out about all the different kinds of paints so that you can pick the one that best suits your project.
Vinyl decals or wallpaper
Another way to decorate furniture is by using materials such as decals or wallpaper. These materials come in all kinds of interesting designs that would be tough, if not impossible, to paint by hand. In addition, they’re easy to apply and remove while boasting a reasonable price.
But just make sure to measure your furniture properly before buying them to avoid problems like not having enough material or ending up with a ton of leftovers.
Washi tape
Washi tape is decorated tape. It comes in endless designs and colors that range from flowers to geometric or animal motifs. You can even find it in different widths.
If you’re short on patience, we suggest using washi tape to only decorate smaller furniture pieces. However, if you have the time, patience and creativity, go ahead and try decorating a bigger piece of furniture and amaze everyone with the results.
Should you choose to decorate with washi tape, we also suggest that you buy it online because you’ll be able to buy more at a lower price.
Discover decoupage
Decoupage is a decor technique for surfaces that consists of using varnish to transfer images from paper or fabric cutouts. Many people might think that it looks old-fashioned. But, remember that it all depends on your design.
Lastly, a spin-off of decoupage uses paper napkins for the images. It doesn’t call for as many layers of varnish in addition to taking less time to transfer the image.
For this project, you’ll need to clean and bleach the surface of the furniture where you want to transfer the image. After preparing the image or design that you want to transfer, paste it onto the surface with an all-in-one adhesive, varnish, and seal. Make sure that it’s nice and smooth, without bubbles. After, let it dry for at least 8 hours.
These are only some of the many ideas that you could use to decorate your home furniture. They make for economic and easy solutions and will give your furniture a fresh new look. Remember that for these kinds of projects, your most important tool is your creativity, so…let’s get to work!
