5 Easy Solutions for Eliminating Insects from Home
Keeping your rooms clean isn’t enough. You also have to address any unsanitary threats as well. So today, check out these 5 solutions for eliminating insects from your home.
How many times have you dealt with pesky mosquitoes at night? Or been surprised by spiders in the shower and cockroaches in the kitchen? Insects don’t always mean neglect. They’re simply animals that appear from time to time.
While we have to respect and protect nature and its creatures, critters shouldn’t be roaming around in your home. Discover the solutions that can help you prevent and eliminate insect problems.
1. Cockroaches
If you live in the city–especially if it’s in a humid region–, you probably have dealt with cockroaches before. They come in all sizes. Did you try using insecticide? Insecticides, unfortunately, can harm your home environment.
But here’s an interesting and natural idea – cut the top off a 1-liter plastic bottle. Flip it around and fit the tip inside the bottom half of the bottle.
Next, fill the bottle with water. Cockroaches will climb into this trap and won’t be able to crawl out easily. It’s simple yet effective and can even work on mosquitoes and flies, too.

2. Don’t let flies flood your home
Flies are another common pesky invader. They can be a nuisance and tend to crowd areas with food or garbage, such as the trash can. What can you do if you don’t have a flyswatter on you?
We have 3 solutions for preventing flies from entering your home, or eliminating them if they’re already inside:
- Insert a sponge and essential lavender oil into a small bottle and place it next to a window. Lavender repels flies and will keep them from entering your home.
- Planting basil or cumin can help keep flies from entering your home for the same reasons as lavender. Set them up by a window to create an aromatic barrier.
- You can also leave orange peel in strategic points throughout your home to repel flies. Orange peel fills rooms with its fragrance, which encourages these pests to fly away.
3. Mosquito trap
Mosquitoes usually appear in spring. They buzz into homes and feast at night. Mosquitoes present a big problem and can even keep you up at night.
Get rid of them by creating a mosquito trap. Cut the top part of a plastic bottle and flip it around, inserting it into the bottom half.
Fill the bottom half with a mixture of sugar water and yeast. Attracted by the carbon dioxide, the mosquitoes will fly into the trap and get stuck. No more mosquitoes!
4. What about spiders?
Spiders usually enter homes looking for shelter from bad weather. If you find one in your shower, it might be a weather forecast for rain.
Here’s a simple solution for preventing spiders from entering your home – fill a spray bottle with one cup of vinegar and two cups of water.
Next, spray the surfaces where spiders might enter: windows, drains, pantries, floors, corners, etc.
5. How can you keep ants out?
Keep ants from marching into your home by filling a spray bottle with a couple of tablespoons of alcohol, liquid soap, and water.
Next, simply spray the solution where the ants walk to send them packing or to block them from advancing.
