Bedroom Decor and Sleep: Make the Most of Your Room
Last update: 18 July, 2019

The bedroom is the room you sleep in at night and relax in. It’s crucial to have a bedroom that helps you sleep because it will help you stay healthy. What you might not realize is that it’s about more than just your mattress. Keep reading to see our simple tips on how to create bedroom decor that will help you sleep!

The bed: the key part of bedroom decor and good sleep

Like we said a second ago, your mattress isn’t the only thing that plays a part in the quality of your sleep. That being said, it’s still one of the key elements.

You absolutely have to have a good mattress if you truly want to get a good night’s sleep, every night. There are lots of options out there, so you can choose whatever works best for you. The basic goal is to find one that’s comfy and helps you relax at night.

It’s the same idea with pillows. They all fall onto a spectrum of hard or soft, and you just have to choose the type that’s best for you. If you share a bed with someone else, you should get individual pillows so that you don’t interrupt each other’s sleep.

Less is always more

One of the most important tips we have to give you about bedroom decor and sleep is that you should just have the things you need

What we’re trying to say is that you shouldn’t have a lot of decorations and decorative objects. You’re trying to get your mind, which is constantly turning and turning from all the stimuli in the world, to calm down and ease itself into sleep. That’s harder to do with a lot of things in the room.

A tidy bedroom can help you sleep better

Tidiness is another one of the crucial parts of having bedroom decor that will help you sleep. If you spend just five minutes a day cleaning up your room, it won’t be too hard to keep it looking nice and tidy.

Having your bedroom tidy will give you a feeling of calmness and relaxation. That’s obviously going to help you sleep, and you won’t have to go to bed thinking about all the picking up you have to do tomorrow.

Colors play a big part too

It might not seem that important, but the colors on your walls, furniture, and bed are a major part of how relaxing and restful your most intimate space is.

You can never go wrong with white in a bedroom

White is one of the most frequently used colors in bedrooms and has never really gone out of fashion. If you decide to paint your walls this color, one good option is to mix it up a bit and have one or two of your walls painted a pastel color, too.

White is also a good option for any of the furniture in your bedroom. Having so much of your room in this color will help it create a total feeling of calmness within you.

But like we said in the first point, we still recommend that you combine white with other colors (which we’re going to talk about now). The drawback to having too much white in a bedroom is that it can actually make it seem lifeless or bland.

Pastel colors

Pastel colors are perfect for a bedroom. Because light shades give the space a sense of freshness, joy, and tranquility.

You can choose these as wall colors like we mentioned above or get sheets in these colors to go along with other parts of your decor, like your blankets or pillows.

Light gray: easy to match with

If you want to use lots of different colors and make the room more lively, we suggest you choose gray and combine it with something like white or pastel colors. Those combinations look great in a bedroom.

On top of being a relaxing color, gray is also one of the most elegant colors you can use in home decor.

Good lighting will help you get good sleep

Some figure

Lighting is a huge part of creating a relaxing bedroom. You should never have strong, bright lights in your bedroom because they’ll trick your brain and will interfere with your state of relaxation and your sleep.

What’s the perfect kind of lighting? Think of the general tone you see at sunset: dim and almost reddish in color. Try not to use lights that are very yellow.

We also recommend having several light sources spread out around the room. We especially recommend it if you share the room. Spreading out will mean you can both have the lighting you need.

If you can, get a lamp with adjustable brightness. That way, you can adjust the light to your needs any time you’re in your room.
