The Areas we Always Forget to Clean
No matter how thorough we think we are, there are usually areas that we always forget to clean. Therefore, we’re going to review this together so that there’s not a single space in our homes accumulating dirt.
Let’s get our cleaning tools out! With a magnifying glass and a critical eye, we’ll contemplate every corner of the house so that everything shines again.
The areas we always forget to clean
We’ve set out to get off to a good start this season and cleanliness is a fundamental part of that. After getting to know Oosouji, a Japanese cleaning method to start the year off right, we want to get down to work as soon as possible.
Curtain rods
Since they’re on the ceiling, we often forget to clean the curtain rods. It seems that the further away the area of our gaze is, the more unnoticed it goes. Sunlight and dust that come in from the street when we open the windows make them dirtier than we think.
To clean them, we’ll need a ladder or a stool and if we have a vacuum cleaner, much better. We can pass the duster over them once a month and also clean them in-depth with a product that doesn’t damage the material.
The air conditioner
Dust and grease also accumulate in the air conditioning, so we mustn’t forget about it. The easiest thing will be to include it in our cleaning routine; just a vacuum cleaner and a damp cloth will be enough to keep it spotless.
Areas we always forget to clean: under furniture
The areas that we don’t usually clean are those that have difficult access, such as the floor underneath the largest and heaviest furniture.
The problem is that it ends up accumulating a large amount of dust, dirt and even objects that we’ve dropped and forgotten. Of course, we must be careful when moving the furniture to avoid scratching the floor. The best thing is to dedicate time to them in the monthly cleaning routine so that they don’t go unnoticed.
The shelves… and their contents
Especially for lovers of reading, this is one of the laziest places to clean. Those bookcases full of books tend to accumulate a lot of dust and mites, so every so often you have to take them all out and dust them off one by one. Then it’s time to clean the shelves and put them back in place.
Outlets and switches throughout the house
Millions of bacteria accumulate in sockets and switches. Studies like that of Dr. Chuck Gerba, professor of microbiology at the University of Arizona, show this.
To maintain safety, disconnect the electrical current before you begin. You can then use a cotton swab to scrub the corners and recesses, and we mustn’t forget to dry them before reconnecting everything.
Areas that we always forget to clean: cables
The cables are often so hidden and inaccessible that they’re a nest of dust and mites, something that can be harmful to allergy sufferers. With the help of the small brush of the vacuum cleaner, we can leave them as new. If they’re very dirty, use a damp cloth with soap and water, always taking care to disconnect them beforehand.
Trash can
It’s impossible for the garbage can to not end up dirty. For this reason, it’s one of the areas that need the most attention in terms of cleaning. We must disinfect it at least once a week to avoid bad odors and the accumulation of germs and bacteria.
The lamps
We must admit that table or floor lamps are more controlled, but ceiling lamps are usually forgotten. It happens as with the curtain rods: being so high, we sometimes forget to access them.
However, the amount of dust they accumulate is surprising. We can use an extendable duster or do it with the vacuum cleaner and, once a month, clean in-depth with a damp cloth in soapy water.
We’re sure that these areas that we forget to clean are repeated in more than one home, right? It happens to all of us, and even more so with the accelerated pace that we usually live.
Although they’re not places that need such frequent cleaning, we should consider the deep cleaning that we carry out every month. Enough of forgetfulness and dust! Now, we know which areas to pay attention to.
