If you’re looking for an original option for your home, decorate your walls with letters or numbers. It’s a trend that we’re starting to see more often and you’ll love it!

As you’ll see throughout this article, they give a lot of play when it comes to decorating your walls. You can find them in different sizes, fonts, materials, combinations, etc.

A few years ago, it was very common to find them in children’s rooms; either near the door spelling out the child’s name, on the carpets or the walls.

However, it’s becoming more and more common to find these decorative pieces outside of children’s rooms. For example, in the kitchen, bathroom, living room, office, etc. And not just that, you can also see them in businesses like shops or restaurants.

Here are some ideas for decorating your walls with letters and numbers.

Different possibilities

First, you should know that there’s a wide variety of designs. So, it’s important to keep your budget in mind. And, they’re usually pretty easy to find, either in home decor stores or online.

Also, you should think about the wall space available so you can pick the right size. You’ll notice that there are many different sizes. Generally, it’s best to use smaller letters/numbers if you’re going to use a lot of them. On the other hand, if you only need two or three, you should get larger ones.

Be sure to think about your home’s style so the letters or numbers have the right look: more casual, more elegant, more ornate, uppercase, lowercase…

There are also many different types of materials: vinyl or stickers, wood, light-up letters, cardboard, metal, thread, flowers, with neon lights, painted directly on the wall… If you like board games, you can even buy letters that look like Scrabble pieces and use them to make different words.

Last, keep in mind that they don’t all have to be the same color, and they can even be stamped. You can also find untreated wooden letters that can be customized to your individual tastes.

How and where to place them?

First, you have to see how much wall space you have to work with. Based on that, you’ll know how many letters and/or numbers to choose and in what size.

Unlike frames, you don’t have to keep them in the upper-middle zone of the wall; you can put them at ground level, on the baseboard. Or, you can put them on top of a piece of furniture and lean them against the wall.

They’ll be very easy to place if they’re vinyl, it should only take a few minutes. Otherwise, you’ll have to fix them to the wall so they won’t fall, especially if they’re really large and made of metal.

Remember that you can spell out words like live, laugh, eat, welcome. If you’re using them in a bedroom, especially in a kid’s room, it’s a great idea to spell out his name.

But you can also form complete sentences. Of course, this will require smaller letters so you don’t overload the space.

Another possibility is to place them randomly, with your only objective being to decorate. You can combine sizes, colors, letters, and numbers, or just one of them.

Also, if you like XXL letters and numbers, you can put just one of them on a piece of furniture or on the floor leaning against the wall. These are usually made of metal and can even have light bulbs. Sometimes, they’re hollow so you can even use them as a small shelf.

Any space will work great for letters and numbers

Finally, keep in mind that these will look great in practically any area of the house. Just make sure the words or phrases are relevant in the space you place them. Additionally, you can use them in the corridors of your house.

Of course, if they’re large letters, try to make sure there isn’t much else on the wall you’re using. That way, they’ll highlight more of the other elements in the room.

Generally, both letters and numbers can be combined easily with all types of decor. However, neon letters are the exception to that since it’s such a bold piece. So, dare to decorate your walls in an original and striking way.
