Children’s bedrooms should be peaceful spaces where children feel safe. They must be able to get good rest in their room. In fact, you have to make sure the energy flows there so that your little one can grow happily. That’s why we’ve decided to share the keys to applying feng shui in children’s rooms.

This is one of the most popular tools to decorate with. Materials, colors, and distribution come together to create harmonious spaces that provide your home with well-being.

What’s feng shui?

Feng shui is an oriental philosophy that studies the flow of energy in rooms to achieve harmony and balance. It’s based on the correct use of colors and materials and the arrangement of furniture and accessories, which will allow “chi” or vital energy to enter each of the areas of your home.

To achieve this goal, one of the key tools is the bagua map, a kind of energy map of your home that relates each area to a fundamental aspect of your life.

It divides spaces into nine areas, and results in a diagram applicable to any room.

A few tricks to apply feng shui to children’s rooms

How many times have you complained that your children are unfocused, don’t do their homework, or don’t get enough sleep? It’s possible that, with a little help and the right distribution, you’ll be able to solve these problems.

The best colors for children

Interior design experts recommend neutral colors for children’s bedrooms. You can use accessories with their favorite colors to personalize their bedroom through cushions, bedspreads, rugs, or any other decorative detail.

You must be careful with the colors, especially if you haven’t studied how to apply feng shui to a room. Depending on your child’s date of birth, they’ll belong to one element or another. If you don’t know your child’s element, you may create conflict without even knowing it.

For example, if your child is from the Fire element and you decorate with a cold color from the Water element, such as blue, there would be a chromatic and elemental problem. Therefore, we recommend you use neutral colors.

Feng shui in children’s rooms – the bed

One of the main elements in a child’s bedrooms is the bed. It should be a place where they can rest and feel safe. As we’ve already mentioned in other articles, it’s important for beds to have firm and solid headboards that you should place on the floor for support.

If your child’s feet are facing the door, they’ll feel more comfortable. However, avoid placing the bed facing a window. Also, it isn’t advisable to place the headboard on the same wall as the door.

The study area

Now, here’s a dilemma, because feng shui recommends not sleeping and studying in the same space. This is due to the fact that combining rest with work is confusing for energy.

However, this isn’t always possible due to space issues. Therefore, you should place your desk in a spot where it doesn’t face the street through the window, so it’ll be less distracting.

A good way to partition spaces is to place a folding screen between the study or play area and the rest area. You should check out this one from ManoMano.

Be careful with cables. You must conceal them and keep electronic devices turned off when your children aren’t using them.

We recommend you pay close attention to the decorations that you place in your children’s bedroom. Make sure to include a symbol of protection, regardless of your beliefs. Simply make sure it transmits safety and security.

Avoid placing elements that could scare children. Also, don’t allow your children to decorate with skulls or any other aggressive element when they get older. Keep in mind that feng shui harmonizes and replicates that energy. Don’t even think about adding hostile decorative elements! This is because they could affect your child’s mood.
